Performance Shipping has agreed to sell the Japanese-built P Yanbu for $39m, nearly $5m over valuation.
Giuseppe Rosano of Alibra Shipping said: “We didn’t find this price for a non-scrubber Japan-built [ship] excessive,” hinting at emerging non-Chinese ship premiums.
Sale of P Yanbu is said to be in line with other vessels offloaded in recent weeks, as well as tonnage currently circulating
European shipbrokers believe the firm price achieved by Greece’s Performance Shipping for its latest tanker sale is in line with market sentiment and other recent deals.
Some also argue that premiums for non-Chinese-built ships are being seen in secondhand markets as the US deliberates whether to slap big port fees on Chinese tonnage.
Nasdaq-listed Performance said this week that it had agreed to offload the 105,400-dwt Japanese-built P Yanbu (built 2011) for $39m, nearly $5m above VesselsValue’s assessment.
Giuseppe Rosano at Alibra Shipping told TradeWinds: “We didn’t find this price for a non-scrubber Japan-built [ship] excessive.”
Asked whether this reflected a non-Chinese premium, Giuseppe replied: “It’s only now just starting to slowly filter down.”
